Abstrak

Corruption has long been a crime that attracts global attention, including in Indonesia, which has a high Corruption Perceptions Index. Despite the earnest efforts of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to combat corruption, the culture of corruption persists, driven by motivations of power and wealth. The establishment of the KPK as an independent institution is based on an understanding of the extraordinary nature of the crime of corruption and a response to shortcomings in previous law enforcement. The KPK has a full responsibility to the public and periodically submits reports to the President, DPR (People's Representative Council), and BPK (Supreme Audit Agency). The organizational structure of the KPK is designed to remain open to public participation. Anti-corruption strategies involve preventive, deductive, and repressive approaches. However, anti-corruption efforts face several obstacles, such as regulatory overlaps, suboptimal judicial quality, lack of integration in overseeing the performance of law enforcement, and weak sanctions against corruptors. Prevention strategies involve identifying and addressing the root causes of corruption to reduce the likelihood of its occurrence. In the context of criminal law enforcement against corruption, the KPK plays a central role with extensive authority. However, the implementation of the death penalty as a new criminal option in corruption cases sparks debates about its effectiveness in creating a deterrent effect. In this research, data collection methods include documentation and qualitative techniques. Qualitative analysis is performed to classify data and formulate conclusions and recommendations. The focus of the study is on the history of corruption development in Indonesia, challenges faced by the KPK, and strategies for enforcing criminal law against corruption. Therefore, more effective prevention and law enforcement strategies are needed to reduce and prevent an increase in corruption cases in the future.
